About Institute

Chairperson's Message

Over the past decade, companies across almost all industries in India have been changed by competition both within the country and outside. India is no longer isolated from the economic mainstream. The patterns that are emerging in business world wide are bound to be repeated here. The year 2006 has been a very good year for the Indian business. Our markets have recovered and the mood has been upbeat. The Indian Economy, hitherto seen as a slow moving elephant has suddenly got the spring of a swift tiger. But we cannot rest on our laurels.

Our efforts will have to double up, particularly when there exists an increasing possibility of winnings. For Indian business, this involves a change of strategy, structure, culture, compensation and every thing from sparking innovation to streamlining internal processes.

The solution to this conundrum of this organizational complexities will have to be provided by our future managers. In order to win in today’s fiercely competitive business environment, they will have to excel at short-term execution of their business objectives, while pursuing long-term visions that cerate new paradigms.

At the Indira Group of Institutes, we have picked up the gauntlet thrown down by the demands of the existing business environment. Our motto at Indira is the pursuit of excellence, a fact that is evident from our infrastructure and the quality of individual candidates – the Indraites. At the core of our philosophy lies the conviction that we must become ambidextrous, and this dynamism is translated in to the knowledge provided to out students. We look forward to a constant search for excellence to constantly strengthen our efforts and make this country a place to reckon with, in the world community.

Thank you for considering Indira.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Students Council:

Students of Indira on an anti-plastic drive as part of
community service
.

Students' Participation in Decision Making

At Indira, we strongly believe that challenges can be converted into opportunities with hard work and an integrated approach. All student activities are conducted through total and active involvement on their part. During these activities, we strive to emulate the principles of teamwork and synergy to derive greater cumulative benefits.

The Students Council led by a President and a Vice-President helps propel the Institute's success. The council comprises of various committees as follows :

Placement Committee:
This committee frequently interacts with the corporate world, thereby developing and maintaining symbiotic relations. It undertakes various activities related to campus placement for final year students and summer training for the 1st year students.
Seminar Committee:
This committee organises several seminars on topics of current importance and relevance. They interact with CEOs, Entrepreneurs, Consultants, Managers and Professionals from various spheres of business, who are invited as guest speakers to shed light on the subject matter, with a view to change mind sets and broaden horizons.

Alumni Committee:

This committee works as a bridge between the alumni and the alma mater – at the corporate and personal level. Our alumni are our best ambassadors in the corporate world and a vital link in the Industry – Institute relationship.

Cultural Committee:

This committee aims to encourage the students to participate in various inter-collegiate events and to develop their latent potential in dance, drama, creativity, management games, organisation skills, etc.

Sports Committee:

Students, who are under constant pressure to learn and excel, need space and time to relax and revitalise themselves. The sports team headed by students arranges cricket, basketball, volleyball, football and badminton matches, to enliven the sporting spirit and enable students to cool off from the hectic schedules.

Mentoring Programme:

Indira firmly believes in moulding future managers by providing personal guidance in their development. Towards this end, a Mentoring Programme has been institutionalized to counsel them on the key attributes that they need to focus on, to become effective managers and leaders in the future. The programme also covers issues connected with the recruitment and selection process of managers and how the students can confidently face such processes.A group of students is thus assigned to a mentor for counseling and guidance. The group stays with the mentor who acts as their friend, philosopher and guide in all matters, for upto one and a half year. Group sessions as well as one on one sessions are included in the programme. The frequency of mentoring sessions is designed to be highly productive.

The programme is well appreciated by the student community for the high degree of personal involvement of the mentors in shaping their future.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY INITIATIVE

At Indira, we believe it is the responsibility of each and every student to be sensitive towards environmental and socio-economic issues facing the nation. Business and society can co-exist peacefully only if we all believe in the doctrine of sustainable development. Our students are encouraged to actively organise and participate in tree plantation drives, anti plastic bag drive, vehicular pollution control and awareness programs, medical support for the needy, etc. These activities form an integral part of the social responsibility initiatives at Indira.

Social Responsibility Initiative

Breath

Blood Donation
Breath:
Smoking is a pleasure for a moment and a pain for life. ‘Breath' was an anti-smoking campaign carried out by our students during which they presented slides and approached the common man to create awareness about the consequences of smoking.
Blood Donation:
The noblest donation of all, as every drop of blood can save life. A blood donation camp was organised at our institute where students voluntarily donated blood, which was collected by Akshay Blood Bank, Visweswara Blood Bank and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
Sankalp:
It's a commitment for helping those who are rendered helpless. It was a campaign to rehabilitate the migrants from Kashmir, where donations were collected from willing donors and channeled to the needy.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
At Indira, along with the comprehensive academic inputs, equal emphasis is attached to the all-round development of thestudent. This objective is achieved by encouraging the students to organise and participate in seminars, debates, workshops, quizzes as well as management games and competitions. Majority of the activities are carried out in close association with the faculty and the management, which helps the faculty to understand and analyse the students better while serving as a feedback system for the management.

BrainGain: It is an initiative for the development of a student's overall personality. A high level of interaction between the corporate gurus and students ensures that the students imbibe the practical knowledge from the gurus. Moreover, they are propelled to enhance their communication and presentation skills, general awareness, etc. Through these activities, students gain confidence and increase this knowledge base. It compromises of various activities like –

1-Extempore speeches
2-Group discussions
3-Tracking of Industries
4-General awareness
5-Presentation skills
6-Fitness Programme & Yoga

Fitness Programme & Yoga:
At Indira, we strongly believe that efficiency and effectiveness of individuals in college or at work is directly related to the mental and physical health of the individual. In order to inculcate these qualities in our students, we have introduced a fitness programme comprising of gym, yoga and aerobics. Students joining Indira have to compulsorily attend fitness classes thrice a week. This would help them to consciously realise the transformation that they undergo, in terms of their ability to work longer hours, while remaining mentally alert.
Association Of Innovative Marketing (AIM):
The students of Indira Institute of Management in co-ordination with students from ISMS have founded this association, with an
objective of providing a platform for developing better ties with the industry. The activities taken up by them under the aegis of AIM, include market surveys for corporates, organising marketing fairs, marketing game competitions and seminars on various areas of marketing such as advertising, packaging, promotion etc., to be in step with the latest trends.
OUTDOOR MANAGEMENT TRAINING (OMT)

This is a unique training program designed for the students of Indira, wherein the focus shifts from classroom to mother nature, who is a master teacher herself. Under OMT, students are required to spend time in the wilderness with rocks, hills, rivers, lakes and forests being their learning aids. The objective of OMT is to put students under physically challenging circumstances away from the luxuries of home. This action - oriented programme contributes directly to their personal growth and physical preparedness. Thus, a series of adventure sports and outdoor experiences like trekking, rapelling, rock – climbing, canoeing, star gazing, living off the land, etc., aim to build one's skills in leadership, teamwork, decision making, crisis management skills and thus lead to the holistic development of the student. OMT today, is widely recognised by the corporate sector as an effective training technique for developing the personality of their executives. Indira introduced this programme six years ago with a view to giving an edge to their students over others in their professional career, rife with competition.

DISCIPLINARY POLICY AT INDIRA

Attendance:

The Students of Indira are required to maintain a minimum of 90% attendance per semester. Any student failing to meet the above standard is liable to get his / her term canceled; in addition he / she will not be allowed to participate in the Campus Recruitment Program. Feedback based on monthly monitoring of attendance helps students maintain the minimum required attendance.

The course is strenuous in nature and demands attendance on Sundays too. As such any student willing to put in long hours on a regular basis will be best suited to adapt to the course and derive maximum benefit from it.
Dress Code:

At Indira, we believe in inculcating a sense of discipline and belonging in the students by observing a strict dress code. Students are expected to wear formal dress (shirt and trousers for gents; sari / salwar kameez for ladies) throughout the week, except on Saturdays which will be observed as `casual-day'. On the occasion of guest lectures, seminars, etc. students are expected to be dressed in the Indira uniform (blazers, tie, shirt, trouser for gents and sari for ladies). A student failing to adhere to the dress code will not be allowed to attend the lectures and will face disciplinary action.

NOTE: Parents of selected candidates will have to sign an undertaking at the time of admission that their son / daughter will strictly adhere to the Discipline Policy.
Hostel Rules:

The boys and girls Hostels at Indira have a set of rules which have to be adhered to strictly by the students. Each hostel is headed by a warden who acts as a facilitator and observer
